Methocel is a non-toxic water-soluble cellulose powder used as a thickening, binding, and gelling agent. Can be used for practical FX such as creating slime, pus, snot, ectoplasm, or other goopy fluids. May be tinted with food coloring or any water-based colorants.
Mix with very hot water to activate. Adjust the ratio of powder to water for the desired viscosity:
- Thin slime: approx 1:1 water to powder by volume
- Thick goopy slime: approx 1:2 water to powder by volume
- Very thick goop: approx 1:3 water to powder by volume
To mix, prepare 3/4 amount hot water needed, and mix methocel powder in slowly, stirring until dissolved. Add remaining 1/4 cold water and stir well. Product will thicken as it cools.
